Thursdays, March 25 -

Ages 6-9

The objective of the Art
of Reading program is to inspire creative inquiry by developing
visual literacy skills and hands-on experience with a variety of
art media. Utilizing picture books as an art form, children
will look, listen and discover how the illustrator/artist has told
a story with pictures. By focusing on the art in the picture
books, children are offered a familiar experience with a fresh
perspective. Children are encouraged to be interactive in the
learning by looking at the pictures and telling the story along
with the teacher.
This art production based class
uses picture books and the art found within the pages as a
springboard for the creative endeavor. The children will be
given the opportunity to explore and experiment with a variety of
media (art materials) and ideas the illustrator used to create
their art. The child will be supported throughout the
creative process and encouraged to develop their individual
creative style for making art.
Projects for the Spring
session will include drawing, screen printing, paper engineering
and more.
